Epiphyllum are epiphytic cacti as their name suggests. Some call them orchid cactus due to their large bright blooms and growth habit. Epiphytic plants grow on other plants, not in a parasitic fashion but as hosts. They are not cold hardy and generally can be found only as houseplants or greenhouse specimens.

Dragon Fruit - Halley’s Comet
Halleys Comet Dragon Fruit is a hybrid variety that comes from Hylocereus undatus and Hylocereus guatemalensis. Fruits have a pink outside with green abbreviated fins and purple flesh inside that typically weigh 400-900g. The flesh is sweet with an average brix of 16. The flower blooms are over 30cm across and it blooms all summer. This variety is a strong but less aggressive grower and can tolerate full sun with minimal sun burn. My testing results have proven that Halleys Comet does set fruit on its own however, I would recommend pollen from any Hylocereus polyrhizus for near perfect results.
This variety is not self pollinating.
