Epiphyllum are epiphytic cacti as their name suggests. Some call them orchid cactus due to their large bright blooms and growth habit. Epiphytic plants grow on other plants, not in a parasitic fashion but as hosts. They are not cold hardy and generally can be found only as houseplants or greenhouse specimens.

Dragon Fruit - Cosmic Charlie
Cosmic Charlie Dragon Fruit is a hybrid variety that comes from Hylocereus guatemalensis and Hylocereus undatus. This variety of Dragon Fruit produces a purple-fleshed fruit with a superb grape-like flavor. These fruits are large, averaging 1 to 1.5 pounds. Internet research has said this variety to be self-fertile. However, I have found this to be different. For me, the fruit does not set on its own and needs to be hand-pollinated with another variety. The plant is fast-growing with green three-sided growth with small spines on the rib. It is very similar to Hylocereus undatus growth. Additional internet research has stated that 2S and Cosmic Charlie are the same. The 2S is seedling created by Paul Thomson and mentioned in his book Pitahaya. The 2S is a cross between Rixford, a purple-fleshed variety, and Niezel, a white-fleshed variety.
