Description: Ficus macrophylla, the Australian Banyan or Moreton Bay Fig, is a gigantic evergreen tree that belongs to the same scientific group as the common fig. This tree is native to eastern Australia, where Moreton Bay is located and from which the common name of the tree is derived. 

Size: 35-50m Tall / 35m Wide 

Edible: Yes, but not very palatable. Great food for birds and other wildlife. 

Medicinal: No

Pollinator: No, the flowers are internal and only pollinated by tiny fig wasps. 

Nitrogen / Biomass: Does not fix Nitrogen but can be used as a biomass accumulator for chop and drop.

Other Uses: Fast growing shade tree. 

Deciduous: Evergreen, non-deciduous.

Native DistributionEastern coastal Australia, from the Wide Bay–Burnett region in central Queensland, to the Shoalhaven River on the New South Wales south coast.
